We are excited to introduce to you our newest find! It was worth all the wait….introducing, handwoven and handcrafted bags, popularly known as Bayong bags in the Philippines. The use of Bayong is common among Filipinos going to wet markets especially in rural areas or provinces. Recently the Bayong is being promoted as an environmentally-friendly alternative to plastic shopping bags and is now elevated to the level of being used by women in all walks of life…professional women, women in the medical world, students, fashion models, celebrities, to name a few. Our research for the best Bayong bags led us to six suppliers in different parts of the Northern region of the Philippines. We took time and effort to rigorously search for the perfect Bayong makers. We found them in the little town of Pagsanjan, a municipality in the province of Laguna, Philippines. It has a population of 42,164 people according to the 2015 census. A subset of this population is where a registered Barangay Micro Business Enterprise (BMBE) provides livelihood to more or less 25 families. These families are the weavers, designers, and painters of these Bayong bags who, while enjoying making the most beautiful and useful women’s purses, are earning their livelihood to raise their families. The weavers of the Bayong bags are mostly stay-at-home moms and senior citizens trying to give their manual labor of love while earning a little for their families. It takes patience and dexterous hands to keep the multiple strips of the materials into simple and tightly drawn together checkerboard weaves. We are now giving you access to this great find for your everyday use. Please visit the link below to check out our available Bayong bags:
